DESIGN INFLUENCE
The design of this tapestry was influenced by the Cubism movement, a new approach to representing reality led by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in the early twentieth century. Famed Mexican artist Diego Rivera, having studied in Europe as the Cubism movement gained momentum, embraced the style yet established a connection to Mexico through his deviations in subject matter, color, and tone. Using bold, bright colors and subjects that related to his heritage, Rivera invented a Mexican cubism still celebrated there today through his enduring works.
