Vase 606 is a petite work perfectly sized to stand alone in a small space or act as a companion to a larger piece. This vase combines ceramic and fiber creating an intriguing juxtaposition, drawing inspiration from the interplay of the materials. Within the work of artist Karen Gayle Tinney, the two materials never live alone, relying on each other for structure and completeness. The fiber components are incorporated where the ceramic leaves off; completing the shape or acting as the physical connection between incomplete parts.  Each piece is meticulously crafted by the artist in her studio; some pieces taking months to complete.

ABOUT THE MAKER

Karen Gayle Tinney is a Vermont-based artist and designer whose work consists of ceramics that are all built using a combination of slab and coil to create their organic shapes. The glaze is hand painted to create a finished surface with depth and texture. The fiber components are then applied by hand to create these works of art. Karen studied product design at Parsons School of Design, and currently works out of her home studio in the Okemo Valley.

CARE

Wipe with a dry cloth to eliminate dirt and use dust or lint roller. Products are recommended for indoor, decorative use. Vases will hold water, but take care with the fiber areas to not get them wet. If fringe becomes tangled or needs straightening, use a hair comb to gently arrange the fibers. Hold the fringe where it's attached to the ceramic and gently comb, careful not to snag or pull the fibers.
