A hand built and sculpted vessel, echoing naturally occurring textures and forms. The tactile and variegated surface, created with layers of glaze and and locally foraged clay (slip), shows the interaction of materials through fire. Fired in oxidation at 2200F. One-of-a-kind.
Igneous ("of fire") is part of the artist's ongoing exploration of unique vessel forms. This intriguing sculptural piece celebrates the texture and artistry of the natural stoneware material. Through a slow and intuitive process, she creates organic and asymmetrical forms from clay, adding a tactile connection to the material with clay slips and foraged natural materials. Through both form and surface, she seeks to honor the natural beauty and qualities of the materials used – to bring the earth to life, and to invite the viewer to connect to it.
